Happy Halloween

October 31st, 2008 — 11:25 pm

Tonight is Halloween, so David decided that tonight should be the night to celebrate his birthday. A pretty good call if I must say, everyone goes out partying, and if you’re having a party - then everyone is at YOUR party. Feels good I bet.

Anyway, David dressed up as Alex Delarge from Kubrick’s Clockwork Orange, so obviously whilst walking down Leeds’ dark roads it made sence to whistle haunting renditions of ‘Singing in the Rain’ to passers by. How could we not? We owed it to the public.

Anyway, went to a gig at the Brudenell… Wild Beasts I think they were called. They were pretty good for the first 15/20 minutes, but then it dawned on us… All their songs were exactly the same. Honestly, they all followed the same structure that it was possible to calculate exactly where ‘the dramatic part’ would come, where the guitars would enter and what they would play, or even where the singer would burst into falsetto! So yeah, good at what they did, but they did it waaaay too often.

But fuck it, we weren’t there for the gig tonight, we were there for David (none of us in the house got him anything!). So Happy Birthday, David. Dare I admit it, I think I went out and actually enjoyed myself…

Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence

October 30th, 2008 — 11:17 pm

Oh man, wasn’t sure it could be possible but the sequal movie to Ghost in the Shell was incredible.

As I understand it, its one of the first things to blend Cell Shading with CGI. The results are breathtaking:

GITS2

Seriously. Watch it.

Ghost in the Shell

Ghost in the Shell : American Release Poster, from Wikipedia

Tonight, I watched the first Ghost in the Shell movie. An anime which, although I’ve never read the original Manga, was fucking amazing!

Basically, its set in the year 2029 and follows a group of ‘Sector 9′ agents, trying to catch this Ghosthacker called ‘The Puppet Master’. Oh, but everyones cybernetic and badass. Essentially thats all I understand from the first watch - but my God it was good!

I’m not really well versed in Anime, and I don’t think I’ve ever read any Manga, but I really ant to watch some more good Anime now. I’m lucky enough to be privy to my brother’s Anime knowledge, so I’ve seen some great stuff (Cowboy Bebop, Advent Children, and the Studio Ghibli stuff springs to mind), but I don’t think I’ve seen enough to truley appreciate how good these things are.

Anyway, I think over the next couple of weeks I’ll try and watch a lot more. Picked up a few options for the rest of the week; Ghost in the Shell 2, FLCL, 5 centimeters per second (Blu-ray which I’m fucking excited about!), and I think I’ll try and watch some of the Stand Alone Complex series which I heard is awesome.

October 28th, 2008 — 07:12 pm

Fuck this house is freezing at the moment. I’m wearing two Jumpers, A Hood, Huge Fuck-Off trousers and my fingers are still creaking as I type.

But its okay; I am currently planning the best dinner of all time for tonight :D
